Make-up Trend: Subtle Teal Eyeshadow

Bright eye makeup done right is flirty—not freaky. Shilpa Shetty blends a bold aqua hue into a neutral shade. Brush pearly beige shadow over lids, then add shimmery teal on the outer half of each lid.

Line your lower lashline with the same color. The greenish tint will minimize the appearance of any redness in your eyes.

Make-up Trend: Groomed Eyebrows

There is a fine line between this fall's lush, manicured arches and unruly caterpillars. To perfect the delicate balance like Vidya Balan, brush brows straight up using a clear mascara wand, then carefully snip hairs that go beyond the brow line.

Make sparse brows look fuller by using a volume-building brown mascara instead of a clear formula.

Make-up Trend: Subtle Tan

The key to a fresh autumn complexion is a medium tan. Nothing too pale, nothing too bronze. To create a believable tint, spread a thin layer of light-shade self-tanner around your face and neck before bed each night.

Apply using a cosmetic wedge, so you can cover your hairline and small nooks without making your fingertips tan, too.

Runway's Hottest Make-Up Trends

Fresh and Dewy Skin
Charlotte Tilbury created a sporty and playful the look at Matthew Williamson which was achieved through clever highlighting with MAC’s Silver Dust loose powder - a fine crystallized silver diamond powder buffed onto the skin to give a healthy halo effect. “Apply on the top of the cheekbones, the inner corner of the eye, down the nose and the tip of the cupids bow. All they the areas that light is drawn to, to illuminate the face.” says Lynsey. “The key is buffing and polishing with good brushes. Use a flat topped blending brush to refine the powder into almost nothing on the skin. The aim is to work it into the skin so you don’t see individual speckles, just a healthy sheen.”

Smoky Eye
This enduring eye trend was given a modern taupe makeover at Matthew Williamson using MAC’s cream Paint Pots in Quite Natural and Architecture – a concrete-colored flat muddy brown. “It’s not a messy splish-splosh-splash smoky eye, it’s about a dynamic approach, using smaller tools to create more detailed work.” explains Lynsey, “Start with an intense color in the middle of the lash line where you want the most color and then blend outwards using a very soft, long-haired blending brush for that dappled watercolor look. Keep buffing and polishing the color away so that it fades into the edges of the skin. Use the same technique for the lower lid.”

Peachy Nude Lips
For the rock‘n’roll faded-out lips sported on numerous runways, forget liners, brushes and lipstick and use your fingers. It’s important to keep the lips hydrated and nourished without giving too much shine, so use a matte conditioning lip primer rather than a balm. The primer stops the lipstick feathering and blurring and keeps it on much longer. “The thing with nude color is, unless you put concealer on first, your natural lip color comes through and distorts the color of the nude lipstick so you’ve got to knock out the red first. We did this with a soon-to-launch new MAC pro product called Lip Erase, but another easy way is to mix a smudge of concealer with lip balm and dab onto your lips using your fingers to literally remove the feature. Follow by dabbing a peach rather than a pink nude lip color on top.” Lip Erase is set for release in December and will be available at MAC freestanding stores only.

Sixties-Inspired Eyes
At Smith Spence the make-up created by Andrew Gallimore was Sixties-inspired baby doll with lots of lash but an edgy new palette. According to Lynsey, the look was achieved by contouring around the eye in a rich chocolate chestnut brown before adding a dash of neon blue color on the lid. “The technique was classic Sixties, using a brush to build a brown socket round the eye, then going over it with an aqua lid. We didn’t curl the lashes for this particular look, just built up layer upon layer of black mascara.”

Flawless Matte Skin
Dusty matte monochromatic make-up was de rigeur at Erdem giving a sophisticated and grown up look. “Achieving the perfect matte look is all about layering,” explains Lynsey, “You put all your creams and foundation on first, and then you build up and polish over the skin with an airbrushing powder like MAC’s Invisible Powder on the eyes round the face on the lip to kind of flatten everything without it looking like there’s powder on the skin. You’re trying to make the skin look velvet not take the life out of it.”

Cleopatra Eyes
Winged eyeliner is resolutely refusing to flap its wings and fly away just yet. A dramatic thick black wing sported by the girls on the runway, the feline look is here to stay. You need a steady hand, or a flat surface to rest your elbow on and a good quality liquid liner with a felt-tip-style applicator rather than a brush. Start at the inner corner of the eye as close to the lash line as possible sweeping up at an approximate 40 degree angle just before reaching the outer corner.

Make-up Trend: Burgundy Purple Eyeshadow

Purple's hues are universally flattering because it has both warm and cool undertones. Enhance any eye color or skin tone by adding lavender shadow to your bottom lashlines. Pair it with black liner on top to enhance the eye.

Wet the edge of your eyeshadow brush, then dab it into shadow. Apply the shadow all over your lids, or in your crease to make your eyes pop like no other.

Make-up Trend: Green Eyeshadow

  • Green is a universally flattering shadow color. Keep the face subtle so the green is the focus. A soft blush and a peach/pink or golden lip compliment the green beautifully.

  • When wearing green for the first time, keep it simple. For greens, smudge them around the eyes to create subtle smokiness or apply it just on the upper lids.

  • Green shades are seasonally versatile and transition well from summer into fall. It looks beautiful with a tan, and can be pumped up in fall with green or black eyeliner applied to the inside of the eye for a dramatic evening look.

  • Green is a universally flattering color that works on all skin tones from light to dark. Leave the browbone clean and accent the corner of the inner eye with a little shimmer powder to make it pop even more

  • When selecting a shade that best compliments your skin tone, keep the following in mind: pastel greens work best with fair skin; emerald green for medium skin; blue green for olive skin; and forest green with gold for dark skin. Of course experimenting with shades is the best way to go.

  • Green is a color that makes a statement, as opposed to a neutral everyday shade. Rec: Urban Decay Deluxe Eye Shadow in Graffiti.

  • Look for metallic-flecked shades like this one from Too Faced. Shimmer adds a bit of a modern kick.

  • Shades of green have replaced the typical browns and charcoals as fall's hottest shadow hue. Keep the rest of the makeup minimal. Let green dominate and draw attention to your eyes.

  • Experiment with more drastic colors and placement for nighttime. Smoke it up! Rim the inside of the eye with a shade of green, or wet your shadow brush before dipping in the pigment to give extra intensity. It gives an exotic, confident look.

  • Use emerald shadow with flecks of gold in it. Layer green over a brown base to give a look more dimension. With your finger, press the emerald tone on the center of the eyelid and roll your finger back and forth to achieve a 3-D effect.

Make-up Trend: Glowy Cheeks

  • This season, luminous cheeks compliment. A great blush applied with the right brush ensures you’ll never end up looking washed out while wearing a smokier eye or brighter lip. Use a brush with splayed hairs to ensure dispersion of color. Rec: M.A.C 116 Blush Brush

  • Cheeks should not be your dominant feature. Make sure they are a step or two behind your eyes and lips in vividness. Otherwise you'll look like a clown.

  • Blending is important to give a natural radiance. Whether you use a powder or cream blush, blend the edges well. Also, avoid applying blush with your fingers because it can look streaky.

  • Blush looks most realistic on the apples of the cheeks. Smile at yourself, and apply blush to the apple in round strokes with a fluffy blush brush.

  • A cream blush gives a dewy finish to normal and dry skin. For oilier skin-types, use a combo of matte blush to deposit color and then a shimmery version of the same shade on top to catch the light.

  • The shimmer in blush amps up the glow factor. If your favorite blush doesn't have shimmer, simply put a loose shimmer powder over your blush. But don't overdo it with the shimmer. Shake excess off the brush before applying it. The result will be subtle, and light will hit the cheeks perfectly.

  • If you get a little overboard with your blush, apply a small amount of face powder over the blush to tone it down. The goal is a subtle amount.

  • Warmer, peach and orange colors make the skin look more healthy and alive. Rec: NARS Blush in Orgasm.

  • Steer clear of mauves, reds and browns. Opt for something more natural like Chanel Irreelle Blush in Incognito.

  • To find the shade that matches your natural flush, pinch your cheeks to see what color shows up and try to find a replica.

Make-up Trend: Red Lips

  • Pick the right shade of red for your skin tone. If you're pale and pinky, go for blue-reds. If you're olive, tan or dark, warmer reds will flatter you.

  • A bold red lip is an easy way to add instant glamour. Get the look by lining and filling lips with lipliner (closely matched or slightly lighter than your lipstick shade). Liner evens out the lip shape and gives a sharp edge. For go liner if you have very full lips. Tap the color onto the lips with your finger so the edge of the lip is soft

  • Get clean edges by brushing on concealer after applying lipstick. It will brighten the area and make the red pop while preventing the color from bleeding.

  • If you don't have beautiful full lips like Rani Mukherji. Try something more transparent, like a berry-hued gloss.

  • Generally speaking, blondes look best in blue reds, redheads in berry reds, and brunettes in brick reds.

  • For daytime, a more sheer version is suitable. And then for night, opt for a deeper red to punch it up.

  • Women with strong jaw lines should avoid red lipstick, as it will only highlight a prominent area. Rounder faces pull the look off well.

  • Makeup pros agree that the best way to apply red lipstick is with a lip brush that you dip in the product and then paint onto the mouth. The brush keeps lipstick within the lines and prevents mistakes Rec: M.A.C 318 Retractable Lip Brush

  • Pick four shades you like and swipe them closely together on your inner forearm. Once you see them next to each other, the subtle differences will pop and you'll be drawn to one.

  • Nothing looks worse than a bold color on chapped lips. Look for a moisturizing lipstick and use balm at night to treat your pout. Using a lip balm right before applying lipstick will dilute the rich shade. Rec: Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer in Cocoa

Make-up Trend: Long and Voluminous Lashes

Not every star needs a glam squad! Give yourself these lush lashes. The key to a full, feathery fringe is two types of mascara.

Apply a lengthening formula from root to tip. Top with a volume-building mascara just at the root so ends don't get clumpy, adds Rodriguez.

Rec: Maybelline Intense XXL Volume & Length Microfiber Mascara

Make-up Trend: Fuller, Glossier and Shinier Lips

You can achieve full, glossy lips like Sameera Reddy, without plumpers or fillers by using sheer, glassy glosses, instead of pigmented, vinyl-like lacquers.

Avoid a goopy look by dabbing gloss onto the center of your top and bottom lip to get the perfect gleam.

Make-up Trend: Subtle Cat Eyes

  • The beauty and crispness of this look rely on the rest of the face. Make sure the brows are well defined. Your brows, lips and complexion are flawless supporting players to your cat eye.

  • If you want a thick line, start small. Begin with one layer of liner, then add on to make the line heavier. It's easier to add on more liner than take it off.

  • Any eye shape looks good in the subtle cat eye. But it's a hard look with a hooded lid, to give the eye a lift on the outer corner only, draw half a line that starts thinly from the middle of the eye and goes outward.

  • Using a thin-tipped eyeliner brush, swipe it into a pot of liner and paint it across the lashline and flick it up at the end. This product can also be smudged for a smoky look. Rec: M.A.C Fluidline in Blacktrack

  • It's less fierce than a cat eye that lines the entire eye, but it's equally sexy. Get a look like Rani Mukherjee's using a neutral shadow on the lid, then line the entire upper lid and extend the liner up a bit past the eye. For a more dramatic approach, make the line thicker towards the outer corner. Make a very small line on the outer-corner of the lower lashline and finish with mascara.

  • If you have trouble achieving a flawlessly straight line, dot the lash line with liner, then connect the dots.

  • This look instantly opens up the eye and can be worn with a bold lip or a more neutral one.

  • The upward turn and extension of the eyeliner changes the shape of the eye.

Bollywood Make-Up Artists' Make-Up Trends

On the catwalk
  1. According to ace make-up artist Cory Walia, “the latest trends are the metallic and mineralize eye shadows. I recommend M.A.C Mineralize Eyeshadows. They contain reflective pigments that give your eyes an instant shine. Dramatic eyes are in and it’s nice to use eyeliners in metallic and jeweled shades like… sapphire blue, emerald green, amethyst or even a single line of red… just to add to the drama. Define your eyelashes with mascara and you’re good to go! Contrasting shades of shadow and liner look nice, too.”

  2. Adds Clint Fernandes, “gold is very big this season. Glitter too, is very big. Hints of glitter on the eyes along with frosted lips look great.”

  3. On the international scene, eye shadow colors such as green and blue (with a hint of shimmer) or matte shades of purple, blue and taupe for a colorful yet smoky effect. Neon shades of eye shadow such as lime green, bright orange and hot pink were more in vogue during the summer, but hey, retro is back with a bang so experiment away with this look if you want!

Advantage… You!

  1. Metallic eyes will give you a bright-eyed and alert look during the day. Opt for all the drama while heading out at night (like Cory explained).

  2. Add a pop of mineralize skinfinishes on your cheeks for instant shimmer and a dewy and glowy effect. I recommend M.A.C Mineralize Skinfinish in New Vegas

Doing it right!
  1. During the day, pick a shade of eye shadow close to your skin tone, but with a slight shimmer. This enhances the eyes without overdoing it.

  2. If your complexion is more on the olive or yellow side, opt for earthy colors. Experiment with metallic shades of bronze, gold, deep red, purple, orange and some shades of pink.

  3. If you have a fair or rosy complexion, go for lighter and less opaque shades in pink, lilac, and sky blue.

  4. Use translucent powder before applying eye shadow (in upward strokes) to catch any excess that falls around.

Make-up Trend: Eye-Enhancing Eyeliner

Bring out different hues in your eyes with bright accent colors. The rust and hazel tones of Rani's eyes get an extra pop with pink eyeshadow on her lids and striking blue liner on the bottom lashlines.

Add a colorful by using colorful pencil just beneath the iris and black along the rest of the lashline.

Lead in Lipsticks

Shiseido

Red Earth Lipgloss

Chanel Lip Conditioner

Chiristian Dior

Lancôme

Clinique

YSL

Estée Lauder

The Brands which contain lead are:

1. Shiseido
2. Red Earth Lipgloss
3. Chanel Lip Conditioner
4. Christian Dior
5. Lancôme
6. Clinique
7. Yves Saint Laurent
8. Estée Lauder

The higher the lead content, the greater the chance of causing cancer.

After doing a test on lipsticks, it was found that the Yves Saint Laurent lipstick contained the most amount of lead.

Also, watch out for those lipsticks which are supposed to stay longer. If your lipstick stays longer, it is because of the higher content of lead.

Here is the test you can do yourself:

* Put some lipstick on your hand.
* Use a Gold ring to scratch on the lipstick.
* If the lipstick color changes to black then you know the lipstick contains lead.
