Holiday Make-Up Trend: Shimmery Décolleté

Nothing says glitz like a little extra shimmer. If you're wearing a strapless or thin-strapped top, draw extra attention to the shoulders and decollété by following these simple steps. Moisturize the area with lotion, then dust on shimmery powder. Blot off excess to prevent it from falling on your clothing.

Holiday Make-Up Breakdown by Make-up Artist: Prabir De

The most exquisite designer gown will fall flat if the colors you're flaunting on your cheeks, eyes and lips are not in sync with the makeover mood of the season. So as you get set to make an impact at the Christmas Eve/Christmas/New Year's Eve/New Year's party you're hitting, focus on your face more than anything else. Even the simplest outfit can be carried off with oomph if your eyes and lips are sending the right messages.
Since chances are you will end up wearing either a flamboyant evening dress or a pair of slacks, the accompanying colors shouldn't be too loud. Opt for shades of brown or a dusky pink. These hues are eternal winter favorites and also gel well with Pakistani/Indian features. For the eyes, the trend this season is to ignore the black kohl-lined look in favour of a smudgy effect with eyeshadow.
Says ace make-up artiste Prabir De: "The kohl-lined eyes and nude lips that were a rage for almost the whole year are passé. The no-kohl look is in, with dark lips. And for this years soirées, dark lips with midnight hues of maroon (M.A.C Lipstick in Spice It Up), brown (M.A.C Deep Love) or red (M.A.C Lipstick in Dubonnet) are a must. The eyes can be lighter with a smudgy look."
Skin
Keeping the weather in mind, moisturizing the face (M.A.C Studio Moisture Cream) before applying make-up is essential. This should be followed by a foundation (M.A.C Studio Fix Fluid) that matches the skin tone. Blend this well and top it with a pressed powder (M.A.C Select Sheer/Pressed Powder) in the same tone.
Cheeks
Shilpa's high cheekbones have been accentuated with dusky pink blush (M.A.C Powder Blush in Desert Rose). This has been applied just below the cheekbones and blended well, while a silver (M.A.C Mineralize Eyeshadow Duo in Family Silver) highlighter, that has been dabbed on the cheeks.
Eyes
The first step towards beautifying the eyes is to curl your lashes, then apply an eye primer (M.A.C Prep + Prime Eye). Next, the shadow has to be done with care. De applied a dusky pink shadow (M.A.C Eyeshadow in Sushi Flower) on the upper lid, blending it well, to give a pink tint. Highlight with a mix of silver (M.A.C Eyeshadow in Silver Ring) and bronze eyeshadow (M.A.C Eyeshadow in Bronze) just below the eyebrows. Slap on the same mix on the inner corner of the eyes as well.
Line the eyes with pink (M.A.C Lipglass Pencil in Pink Edge, use a pink lip pencil as an eyeliner, to sanitize as a lip liner again, just sharpen pencil), and brown pencil (M.A.C Eye Kohl in Costa Riche). Give it a sexy yet smooth smudge with a brush. Since the lined look is no longer in fashion, you have to use pencil liners to give the eyes some definition and then smudge them totally so that the lines don't stand out.
Layer on the mascara (M.A.C Plush Lash Mascara) in three thick layers to give the lashes as much length as possible. Without the kohl, this is a must to make the eyes look dark.
Lips
He applied a deep brown lipstick (M.A.C Lipstick in Photo). "Even if you are using lipstick, avoid lip liner. This look requires a smudged look instead of a well defined one," he says.

Make-up Trend: Bright Eyeliner

Punch up the eye-drama factor with bright eyeshadow. Deepika's emerald shade enhances her eye color and looks modern placed only in the lower lash line. Use a gel-based eyeliner like M.A.C Fluidline in Sweet Sage, applied with M.A.C Small Angle Brush in 266. First, line the color just below the iris, then fill in the entire rest of the waterline. Keep the lid shadow light and bright.

Make-up Trend: Fake Eyelashes

  1. Curl natural lashes and apply all eye makeup but mascara. Hold scissors at an angle to trim fakes one by one to desired length before applying.

  2. Squeeze a bit of glue onto a piece of the lashes' plastic packaging. Use tweezers to gently pick up a cluster; dip the base into the glue. Wait 20 seconds for glue to get tacky before applying.

  3. Place the cluster near the outer corner of one eye, between lashes and hold the base against skin. Repeat with another cluster, working your way inward. Do the same thing on the other eye. Four clusters per eye is plenty.

  4. Let lashes set for about 30 seconds before touching them; most glues will dry clear. Brush on mascara.
If You Want a Subtle Effect
Wear short lashes, which you can buy or customize by trimming a standard pair, or opt for a small cluster (three hairs) and apply it only to the outside corner or center of the eye. Human hair looks the most natural, (Ardell Lashes)

If You Want a Bit of Drama
Try a medium-length strip made of synthetic material. It will keep its shape and last longer.

Make-Up Trend: Glowing Skin

Start with primer (M.A.C Prep + Prime Face Protect SPF50), then foundation (M.A.C Mineralize Satinfinish Foundation) and concealer (M.A.C Select Moisturecover). Then dust on bronzer (M.A.C Refined Golden Bronzing Powder), concentrating on the forehead and cheeks. Then layer on peach blush (M.A.C Powder Blush in Pinch O' Peach), first by using a circular motion on the apple, then draw it up toward the temple, using a sponge (M.A.C Disc Sponge), for wet blush or a fluffy brush (M.A.C 150 Powder Brush), for powders. Makeup artists generally recommend cream blush (M.A.C Blushcreme in Blossoming). "It gives sheen with out greasiness."

Kareena Kapoor's Make-Up Breakdown by: Make-Up Artist Prabir De

Step 1
After cleansing your face, apply a foundation (M.A.C Studio Fix Fluid) that is the same color as your skin. Apply it smoothly over the face and neck, ensuring there are no splotches. Dab a little light powder (M.A.C Mineralize Skinfinish Natural) over the skin.
Step 2
Bring out your eyes, keeping in the mind that the look should be on the lighter side to go with the mood of the day. Firstly, use an eyeshadow primer (M.A.C Prep + Prime Eye) to make the colors crease-free and budge-proof. Use yellow (M.A.C Eyeshadow in Chrome Yellow), green (M.A.C Eyeshadow in Wondergrass) and finally aqua (M.A.C Eyeshadow in Electric Eel) eye shadow over the upper eyelid to really bring out the brightness of an aqua eye.
Splash just a dash of light brown eye shadow (M.A.C Eyeshadow in Cork) around the lower lid. Mark the corners of the eyes with a bronze pencil (M.A.C Powerpoint Eye Pencil in Bountiful Brown) to give a gold and copper sheen to give your tantalizing eyes. Apply lots of mascara (M.A.C Plush Lash Mascara) and watch your eyes come alive.
Step 3
When applying lip color of any sort, always match the shade to your complexion, in this case apply a nude-pink lipstick (M.A.C Viva Glam V).
Step 4
Apply a light blush (M.A.C Powder Blush in Buff) to give that extra glow to your cheeks. However, make sure the color is very subtle and you have an almost no-blush-applied look.

Make-up Trend: Creamy Matte Lips

Think Aishwarya Rai, her lips are never over-the-top, they're just subdued and muted. Make-up artist Aniruddha Chakladar says: “Over-the-top glossy lips are on their way out."
The new look to show off is soft and creamy. Choose an almost-nude skin tone according to your skin color and apply generously. Check out MAC's new Mattene Lipsticks.

Be creative and play up your eyes; this is the biggest advantage of subdued lips.

A Sneek Peek into 2008 With Make-up Artist Cory Walia

Make-up expert Cory Walia says looking naturally fresh will be big this year. The loud glossy look is dead. “If you must wear foundation, ensure it blends with your skin tone and leaves a glow (M.A.C Mineralize Satinfinish). So keep it lightweight and creamy matte. Don’t try to look fairer,” he advises.

In keeping with the natural, nude look, tint the cheeks with cream and gel blushes (M.A.C Blushcreme) instead of heavy powder ones. Natural colors, leaning towards peaches and roses (M.A.C Blushcremes in Posey, Pleasureful, Ladyblush, Lilicent, Sweet William, Fancy Ray), will infuse a rusty, tangerine glow to Pakistani/Indian wheatish skin.

Mascara (M.A.C Plush Lash Mascara) will be vital, as will the metallic look created by kajal pencils in burgundy (M.A.C Technakohl in Purple Dash), purple (M.A.C Technakohl in Foxtail), green (M.A.C Technakohl in Jade Way), grey (M.A.C Technakohl in Greyprint) and brown (M.A.C Technakohl in Brownborder). The most drastic change we’ll see this year in make-up? The glossy lip will be passé and matte (M.A.C Mattene Lipsticks) lipstick will make a come-back.

But, some things never go out of style — hold on to that red lipstick (M.A.C Lipstick in Dubonnet).

Make-up Trend: Nude Lips

Call it decent exposure: stars like Shilpa Shetty have been going nude—with their lips, that is. Wearing nude lipstick is always chic and fashion forward. It shifts the focus to the eyes, which can be made up in a sexy, playful kind of way.

Line lips with a rose-tone pencil to give your mouth a distinct boundary between the rest of your skin.

Traditional Wear Make-up by Make-Up Artist: Aniruddha C

The face has been given a matte like texture, we used M.A.C Studio Fix Fluid and M.A.C Studio Fix this covered all her imperfections and gave her face a smooth, even, and flawless texture.

The eyes have been done up with gold-copper eye shadow (M.A.C Eyeshadow in Juiced) on the lid, black shadow (M.A.C Eyeshadow in Black Tied) in an extended pattern, lots of thick kohl (M.A.C Smolder) on upper and lower lid with extended ends and mascara (M.A.C Plush Lash Mascara) on the lashes.

Pink-plum blush (M.A.C Powder Blush in Dollymix) has been highlighted with gold (M.A.C Mineralize Skinfinish in New Vegas). We applied a natural brown lipstick (M.A.C Lipstick in Honeyflower) with gold lip gloss (M.A.C 3D Glass in Backlit). Celina’s hair has been done up in a big, traditional bun.

Make-up Trend: A Smooth Glowing Back

The back is the most overlooked part of the body. To get a sexy back like Deepika, during cold, dry winter months, use a hydrating body wash instead of soap (the more foam, the more drying). Instead opt for a body polish made with hydrating jojoba beads. Spread on lotion right after you shower.

For hard-to-reach areas like the back, use an exfoliating body cloth.

Make-up Trend: Airbrushed Foundation

Want to look airbrushed in person? Dot lightweight tinted moisturizer on face and neck. (Use the shade you are, not a hue you want to be. You'll add color back later with blush and bronzer.) Spread evenly over face and neck with a sponge wedge until formula vanishes completely into skin.

Apply concealer after foundation. You'll need less and won't risk rubbing it off with the wedge.

Make-up Trend: Cat Eyes

Stars can't get enough of this feline trend sported by Vidya Balan. Dab black liquid liner on a tissue to prevent goopy application; then dot formula into (not above) top lash roots from the inner corner to above the pupil, and connect the dots. While slanting the line slightly upwards, extend it 1/4-inch beyond the outer corner.

Don't have a steady hand? Rest your elbow on a counter while you draw the line.

Make-up Trend: Navy Blue Eyeliner

Nothing makes the whites of your eyes stand out like indigo liner. To get Priyanka's crisp, blue-lined sexy gaze, wet a slant tip liner brush (it gives you a more precise line) before running shimmery navy powder shadow across your lashlines.

Wiggle the tip of the brush into lashlines as you move from the outer corner to the inner corner, where you want to deposit the least amount of pigment.

November Vogue India Beauty Scans Part 2

My Beautiful Life : Kareena Kapoor

Her Beauty Favorites:

Kareena Kapoor's Life
This dewy damsel from Bollywood believes in putting her freshest face forward, both on and off screen

What do you see in the mirror?

“Ever since I was a child, I’ve always seen myself as a self-made, confident and determined person.”

Any beauty insecurities?

“I am too fair-skinned. I really envy women who have dusky skin. I have never been able to get a beautiful tanned look. I have always been too ‘white’ and despite it being an ‘asset’ in this country, to me it’s really not a compliment.”

Have you deviated from the industry’s beauty norms or followed them?
“Bollywood is known for its heavy pancake make-up, yet I’ve always maintained that the minimalist look works best. Thankfully, in some of my films like Yuva and Omkara, the bare, clean-scrubbed look was accepted by my fans and the industry. That’s the kind of look I sport off screen.”

Bipasha Basu's Make-up Breakdown by Aniruddha Chakladar

Skin
Actress Bipasha Basu is dusky with flawless skin. Aniruddha applies MAC Studio Fix Fluid and M.A.C Studio Tech and blends it well. The expert’s tip for getting it right on the foundation issue: If you cannot find one matching your skin tone, go in for one shade lighter than your complexion.

Eyes
Aniruddha keeps Bipasha's runway outfit in pink as the make-up guideline. A plethora of pink hues dramatize the eyes — baby pink (M.A.C Eyeshadow in Swish), fuschia (M.A.C Pigment in Fuschia), and magenta pink eye shadow (M.A.C Eyeshadow in Romping) are blended all over the lid, keeping it darker towards the lashes and outter lids. Finally, a shimmery pink pigment (M.A.C Pigment in Rose) gives a gorgeous effect. Aniruddha then applies a thin line of black eyeliner (M.A.C Blacktrack Fluidline) on the upper lid and smudges it. The lower rims are accentuated with black kohl (M.A.C Smolder Eye Kohl). A thick coat of thickening mascara (M.A.C Plushlash Mascara) goes on last. Those not comfortable with an abundance of pink can substitute it with shades of gold (M.A.C Eyeshadows in Gorgeous Gold and Goldmine) that are also in sync with the outfit’s metallic embellishments.

Cheeks
The color story is a continuation of the eyes. A blend of fuschia (M.A.C Pigment in Fuschia) and soft pink blush (M.A.C Powder Blush in Pink Swoon) is applied on the upper cheekbones. This is followed by silver shimmer all over the face (M.A.C Family Silver Mineralize Eyeshadow Duo).

Lips
Her luscious lips are painted with a bright fuschia lipstick (M.A.C Lipstick in Girl About Town) and topped with a pink lipgloss (M.A.C Ample Pink Plushglass).

Let your lips do the talking, like Katrina Kaif does. A sheer fuchsia adds brightness and vibrancy to your lips without looking overpowering.

If you're going bright on your lips, keep the rest of your makeup chic and simple.

Aniruddha C's Make-Up Trends

Make-up is a zone you can experiment with while wearing a sari. Make-up expert Aniruddha Chakladar believes that eyes are the most eloquent feature of desi (Pakistani/Indian) women “Dab a soft shade of peach (M.A.C Eyeshadow in Honey Lust) or a champagne (M.A.C Eyeshadow in Gorgeous Gold) on your eyelids and blend darker brown (M.A.C Eyeshadow in Bronze) on the outer corner of your eyes. Line your upper and lower lids with a black gel liner (M.A.C Fluidline in Blacktrack) and top it off with mascara (M.A.C Plushlash Mascara in Plushblack).”
Though the traditional women prefer redder lips, but with heavy eyes, advises Aniruddha, you should keep the mouth pastel and glossy (M.A.C Tinted Lipglass in Underage).
